 #Risewithus October 19, 2021 This time of year we always wonder what if any freshman can come in make an impact.  We know of the returning talent and the group of transfers that have come in already.  Today we will focus in on the freshman class that has come in and what we have seen and heard around the program.   Garrett Horn - is a LHP that sits 91 to 95 and has shown real promise in the fall thus far.  Horn has a chance to challenge for innings early on in his career and looks like he could be a rotation piece in the future for the Flames.  Any time you get a lefty with that type of velocity that can pound the zone he has a chance to be a difference maker.   Cam Foster - We've already spoken about Foster at length.  No matter who we talk to Foster's name just keeps coming up.  He has the ability to play all 3 infield positions and he started at 2b in the scrimmage vs VT and hit a late inning HR.  He has shown an advanced a...

 #Risewithus October 16, 2021 Liberty baseball has spent the last month and a half practicing and scrimmaging each other.  Friday afternoon the Flames pitchers dominated the Hokies lineup for 9 innings and the Flames rode 3 HR's to a 6 to 0 victory in the 9 inning portion of the contest.  Newcomer Jake Lazarro paced the flames offensive attack with 3 hits including a HR and was on base in 4 of 5 total plate appearances.  Logan Mathieu smashed a 2 run HR to get the scoring started early.  As we mentioned earlier in the week freshman Cam Foster flashed and started the game at 2B for the Flames.  Foster looked the part on defense and hit a HR late in the 9 inning contest.  Foster's development is a welcome sight for the Flames.  At 6'4 he provides a different look at 2B than the Flames are used to seeing historically.  Betts caught the first 5 innings before giving way to Three Hillier who caught the remainder of the game.  Hillier has flas...

 #Risewithus October 14, 2021 The Flames will bus up to 460 and 81 to Blacksburg for a 12 inning tilt with the Hokies of the ACC tomorrow @ 4 pm.  The Hokies will feature potential future first round pick Gavin Cross.  The Flames have taken advantage of the beautiful late summer & fall weather to get an excellent fall season in.  The Flames will wrap up the fall with a contest @ ECU next weekend.  Liberty should learn a lot about what they have for the 2022 edition of Liberty Flames baseball with these 2 upcoming contests.  Cliff Godwin has turned the Pirates into perennial power but they have been unable to get to Omaha.  VT of course was on cruise control to a potential host until the loss in Lynchburg to the Flames in April that seemed to cause the Hokies season to spiral out of control as they finished just 2 games above .500.  The final game of the 2021 season in Blacksburg against the Hokies was cancelled due to the Hokies reaching their...

 #Risewithus August 24, 2021 The 6th transfer that we will highlight could be a key cog in the 2022 lineup for the Flames.  Derek Orndorff is transferring in from D2 power Seton Hill.  Orndorff had a massive 2021 campaign in which he hit .353 with 15 Hr's and 43 RBI's in 139 plate appearances.  He also has legitimate speed as he swiped 18 bags in 21 total tries.  Orndorff can play all 3 outfield positions and provides a power bat from the RH side.  The Flames have needed a power RH bat the last couple years to compliment the bevy of left handed hitters that the lineup features.  Orndorff's versatility could allow the Flames a number of options in the lineup and also how they line up defensively.  Ornsdorff had an incredible catch in CF that made # 4 on the Sportscenter top 10 that day.  He joins an outfield that has made quite a few of those appearances on Sportscenter.   Ornsdorff actually began his career at Penn State for the fir...

 #Risewithus August 23, 2021 The 5th transfer of the offseason that we will highlight is Stephen Hill who is a 3B Grad Transfer from Morehead State.  Hill had a great career that included a .327 34 run 6 HR 37 RBI 2019 Sophomore season.  As a Junior in 2020 he was hitting .294 in 51 plate appearances before Covid halted the season.  Hill hit .294 with 3 HR's 16 2b's and 27 RBI's in 163 total plate appearances in 2021.  Hill hits from the RH side and will provide the Flames with a potential replacement for Trey Mcdyre.  Hill spent the bulk of his career at MSU hitting in the 3rd spot in the lineup.  The Flames will be searching for some RH bats to help balance the lineup and keep the opposition from matching them up in late innings situations.  Mydrye, Locklear & Wilkinson have all departed leaving just Jaylen Guy as the only returning right handed hitting player that received regular at bats (Aaron Anderson is a switch hitter).   I c...

 #Risewithus August 18, 2021 It's been almost 9 years since someone other than Dalton Britt or Cam Locklear have manned shortstop for the Liberty Flames.  Prior to that Matt Williams was a 3 year stalwart at the position in the Jim Toman era.  That type of longevity is rare in college baseball for a number of reasons.  It can also be difficult to recruit the next wave at the position when it's obvious the job isn't going to open in the foreseeable future.  As the 2022 season rolls around the Flames will be tasked with filling that role that Locklear has filled for so long.   The flames have reached into the portal for another interesting addition in Jake Lazzaro who will be transferring from St. Johns.  St. Johns is perennially one of if not the best program from the NE.   Lazarro is a plus defender with solid speed as he was 8 of 10 in stolen base attempts in 2021.  He hit .222 in 108 plate appearances with 1 HR and 13 RBI & 28...

  #Risewithus August 17, 2021 The first post of the new year highlighted Max Alba.  Today we fill focus on 2 more additions from the Clemson Tigers of the ACC.  The first is a name that NFL fans will recognize in Bo Majkowski  (son of Don Majkowski) who is an outfielder that is expected to have 1 year of eligibility left.  2019 was his best season in which Majkowski who is a LH batter hit .248 in 109 AB's with a .399 OBP and was 8 of 9 in stolen base attempts.  Majkowski is known as a plus defender that could factor in the RF mix with the hole vacated by the departure of Brandon Rohrer and Jake Wilson.  As we've come to know defense and speed is infinitely important at Liberty Baseball Stadium where the wind is almost always blowing out to right and there is quite a bit of ground to cover.  Majkowski can be a key cog in the lineup as well if he can replicate that .399 OBP.   The second Clemson transfer is Brett Percival who is a 6'4 RH f...
