The 5th transfer of the offseason that we will highlight is Stephen Hill who is a 3B Grad Transfer from Morehead State. Hill had a great career that included a .327 34 run 6 HR 37 RBI 2019 Sophomore season. As a Junior in 2020 he was hitting .294 in 51 plate appearances before Covid halted the season. Hill hit .294 with 3 HR's 16 2b's and 27 RBI's in 163 total plate appearances in 2021. Hill hits from the RH side and will provide the Flames with a potential replacement for Trey Mcdyre. Hill spent the bulk of his career at MSU hitting in the 3rd spot in the lineup. The Flames will be searching for some RH bats to help balance the lineup and keep the opposition from matching them up in late innings situations. Mydrye, Locklear & Wilkinson have all departed leaving just Jaylen Guy as the only returning right handed hitting player that received regular at bats (Aaron Anderson is a switch hitter).
I could see Hill as an ideal #2 hitter in the Flames lineup with consistent gaps power and the occasional home run. He also walked 27 times and had 2 intentional walks in 2021. It's another high OBP guy that will keep the pressure on the opposition and keep the bases full for the Gulakowski's and Mathieu's to put up gaudy RBI numbers.
We have 1 more post coming tomorrow that will feature the final 2 transfers of this year's class. Stay tuned, one of them had some gaudy stats at the D2 level. Could we see another Fraser Ellard type impact?
