Every single person reading this will enter this story at a different point in time and therefore a slightly different perspective.  I graduated in 2007 and Doc passed away the week of our graduation.  So for me I have about a 20 year reference point roughly.  It was pretty stunning as I like most had always just assumed God would allow Doc to see his vision through, particularly on the enrollment side.  It really didn't feel possible that we could ever get BYU to play us at home, much less beat them.   As a freshman in  2003 and I remember sitting in Convo hearing Doc talk about his BHAG's (big hairy audacious goals) and sayings like "what would you set out to do if you knew you wouldn't fail".  The quote that lasted in my mind the longest was that the true measure of a man was what it would take to make him quit.  None of this seemed remotely possible in 2006 when we went 1 and 10 and had terrible facilities, even by FCS standards.  As I got older I realized tha
Liberty Baseball headed down to Wilmington to take on the Seahawks of UNCW Saturday beginning at noon for a 8 1/2 inning first game that featured many expected starters and contributors from both teams and a 6 1/2 inning second game that featured many freshman and newcomers.  Liberty won the first game 7 to 4.  The Flames will face in state ACC foe Virginia Tech Friday at 5 pm in a scrimmage that is expected to be similar to the scrimmage last year in Blacksburg that will be 9 innings with approximately 3 more additional innings to get more guys action.   Pitching wise Winthrop transfer Garret Gainey would get the start and would go 2 innings while allowing 2 runs with 3 K's and topped out at 91 mph.  Tepper, Germanowski, Cooper & Willard would follow with 1 inning stints each and face the minimum 12 batters with 6 strikeouts.  Tepper topped out at 96, Cooper 94, Germ 96 and Willard 92 mph respectively.  Trey Carter came on for 2 dominant innings allowing 1 run while featurin
Week 2 of the Fall scrimmages has come and gone.  The weather has been spectacular in Southwest Virginia the last couple weeks and looks like at least 1 more week of good weather ahead according to the forecast.  Before we get into some updates on the scrimmages I'll hit on some program notes from the last couple weeks as a lot has transpired.   D1 Baseball completed it's annual program rankings which listed Liberty at number 50.  I think this is still probably a hair low but the Flames have continued to climb the rankings the last 3 or 4 years.  Other programs of note included Southern Miss at 26th whom the Flames will open the season against, future conference foe Dallas Baptist at 27th,  Coastal at 30th, Campbell at 46th, Louisiana Tech at 47th, VT at 48th, ODU at 64th, UNCW at 66th, VCU at 67th, and Stetson at 76th.  As I noted in the Summer the new CUSA will feature 3 consistent top 50 programs in La Tech, DBU & Liberty.   It's been widely reported that Kennesaw
Liberty Baseball has fired it up back up for the fall portion of the 23 season.   Liberty's freshman have all made their way to campus as have the transfers that the Flames added.  This Liberty team will look different than years past as noted earlier in the Summer.  The lineup may lack star power in the form or known proven names like Betts, Hillier & Foster but it has the potential to be much deeper and offer versatility that I can't recall the program having in the past.  There are as many as 3 players (Hudson, Hurtzler & Troyer) that can legitimately be 2 way players.   A pleasant surprise addition to the roster was the return of Ty Germanowski who was able to use his COVID year.  Sophomore Garrett Horn who finished his stand out All American Freshman campaign with an arm injury is on a throwing program and is expected to transition to bullpens at some point in the fall in his rehab process.  By all accounts it sounds like he remains on track to return for the 23
