This time of year we always wonder what if any freshman can come in make an impact.  We know of the returning talent and the group of transfers that have come in already.  Today we will focus in on the freshman class that has come in and what we have seen and heard around the program.

Garrett Horn - is a LHP that sits 91 to 95 and has shown real promise in the fall thus far.  Horn has a chance to challenge for innings early on in his career and looks like he could be a rotation piece in the future for the Flames.  Any time you get a lefty with that type of velocity that can pound the zone he has a chance to be a difference maker.

Cam Foster - We've already spoken about Foster at length.  No matter who we talk to Foster's name just keeps coming up.  He has the ability to play all 3 infield positions and he started at 2b in the scrimmage vs VT and hit a late inning HR.  He has shown an advanced approach with gaps power that could develop into consistent HR power with age and time in the weight room.

Jeremy Beamon - RHP that has the ability to spin the ball at a very high rate.  He has sat 89-91 thus far through the Fall.  He has exhibited some swing and miss stuff and has a chance to challenge for bullpen duty with continued development.

Ryan Butler - RHP from Glenvar in Roanoke/Salem.  He has shown some promise and will look to continue his development.

David Marshall - Another RHP that has projected similar to Butler.  Continued development and dedication to the weight room and training could help both of these guys factor in for the Flames.

Cole Hertzler - 2 way player as a RHP and 1B.  Hertzler is an imposing figure that has shown some raw RH power from the offensive side and a strong fastball.  He could log to log some innings for the Flames this year.

Adrian Mcneal & Joseph Waters - 2 Middle Infielders that have shown well thus fall.  Mcneal is a RH hitter and Waters is a LH hitter.  Waters got in the scrimmage at VT and looked capable.

Nathan Keeter - OF/2B, smaller twitchy athlete that can really run whether it's on the bases or tracking down balls in the outfield.  Speed plays in the friendly confines and can also help the bat by putting consistent pressure on the defense to field the ball cleanly.

Ryan Shieh - C, Shieh is a guy that I had heard was showing some real power.  I've heard he has hit 4 or 5 home runs in scrimmages for the Flames this fall.  That's no small feat for  RH hitting freshman particularly for a catcher.  It sounds like the arm is a plus throwing arm and he will continue to work on his receiving skills like most young catchers.

Nick Moran - LHP , has been limited in the fall due to some flukish injuries.  He's a fastball slider guy from the left side that could project as a starter down the road.

Side note - have heard the Richmond transfer Tim Miller's rehab is going well and he could factor in the bullpen as well.  Another name to keep an eye on.
