Record  : 4-3 RPI : 230th Home : 3-2 Away : 0-1 SOS : 237 Quad 1 : 0-1 Liberty finished up a disappointing second week of the season just 1 and 3.  They dropped a crisp midweek contest 4 to 2 to #12 Duke 4 to 2.  Then Friday night saw starter Cole Hertzler have to leave the game after just 1 inning.  Liberty got behind and came all the way back to tie it but a great piece of hitting by Rosso off Mathieson gave Hofstra the win.  Horn dazzled Saturday with 6 scoreless innings and 9 strikeouts while Kepley & Foster drove in 7 combined.  Sunday was a game the Flames really had to have to win the series against a team they expect to win against.  Dolby wasn't able to give the Flames a quality start and then the bullpen faltered as well as the staff combined for 11 walks.  There were a couple critical throwing errors that hurt the Flames in both losses as well.   It's still too early to get a full read on what the Flames are going to be this year.  However, I think the lineup
Record : 3 and 0 RPI : 59th Home : 3 and 0 SOS : 64 Liberty managed to do something immediately that they were unable to do the entire 2023 season in securing the season opening sweep of Quinnipiac.  The Flames offensive attack was relentless in putting up 36 runs in the 3 game set.  The top 3 in the order stuffed the stat sheet all weekend long.  Sweatt, Kepley & Rabon had 7 hits each, 7 total doubles, and 14 RBI.  Rabon had 9 RBI's alone on the weekend The Flames also stole 4 bags over the weekend.  The Flames defense from the regulars was outstanding all weekend as well.  The pitchers did have a couple throw a ways but they will get that cleaned up.  Quinnipiac is going to win games on the offensive side of the ball this year.  That being said the Liberty pitching fared pretty well over the weekend as well.  Cole Hertzler looked every bit the part of an ace Friday with 6 strong scoreless innings.  Horn & Dolby both showed flashes before getting hurt by the long ball b
Liberty will kick off the 2024 season by welcoming in Quinnipiac from the MAAC.  The Bobcats will make their way down to Lynchburg coming off a 30-26 season that saw them go 13-17 on the road and finish #203 in the RPI.  They went 1 and 12 against Quad 1 2 and 3 level teams.  They are a northern team that's obviously got to deal with limited outdoor practice time with the weather so they can sometimes start slow but they're a pretty scrappy program that will usually keep non-conference games competitive.  They finished in 8th place last year.   They place 3 players on the pre-season All MAAC team including catcher Keegan O'Connor who had big time power and stats at .345 with 13 homers and 60 RBI's.  3B Sebastian Miller hit .311 with 18 HR's and 54 RBI's. RH SP Mason Ulish made the team despite a 5+ ERA in 2023 over 61 Innings.  Bobcats are expecting big things from this young man.  Flames will need to pitch carefully to O"connor and Miller and try to limi
The weather has turned a bit and Opening week is here.  Liberty Baseball has been ready to turn the page for quite a while on what proved to be one of the more disappointing seasons in 2023 in the programs history.  Very little went right in 2023 other than the development of a young core that the Flames could build around along with a handful of veterans.  The offseason also saw quite a few changes including the departure of both assistant coaches in Tyler Cannon and Matt Williams.  However,  as usual the Flames reloaded with Tyler Robinson from Campbell and former Flames SS Matt Williams who had spent the last several years as a scout following a successful MILB career with the St. Louis Cardinals.  Head Coach Scott Jackson moved quickly to get his top target in each situation.  Robinson's name has really exploded onto the seen with the development of power arms like Cade Kuehler and Thomas Harrington among others.  Williams had been a slick fielding SS that Coach Jackson was i
