Liberty : 3-4 Home: 0-0 Away: 3-4 Q1: 0-3 Q2: Q3: Q4: 3-1 RPI : 75 SOS : 85 Liberty ended it's season opening 7 game road streak by winning 2 of 3 against Winthrop on the road.  It was a battle all weekend against the former Big South Foe.  Horn would go 5 innings with 4 strikeouts Friday to earn the win.  Willard looked sharp in 2 scoreless innings and Beamon made his season debut with a scoreless inning.  Cole Garrett continues to provide the Flames with some good situational pitching with that changeup as he recorded the final out.  Foster, Simmons & Lazzaro all had an RBI each.  Saturday was a 5 to 3 loss that saw Nick Moran toss 5 innings of 1 run ball.  Todd Hudson was the hard luck loser as the bullpen was unable to close the game out as the Flames had a 3 to 2 lead after 6.  The 3 errors really crippled the Flames and allowed for 2 unearned runs.  Liberty was held to just 3 hits, 2 of which were Troyer's.  Sunday was a battle as Tepper would go 4 innings and allow 2
Liberty : 1-3 Home: 0-0 Away: 1-3 Q1: 0-3 Q2: Q3: Q4: 1-0 RPI : 16 Liberty picked up a much needed 8 to 6 road midweek win over the Duke Blue Devils of the ACC.  The Flames came off a weekend that the bats were silenced for virtually the entire weekend by the 18th ranked Southern Miss Golden Eagles in which they scored just 3 runs in 3 games.  There's something about the Blue Devils that seems to wake up the Liberty bats over the last few years and Wednesday would prove that theory to be true again.  Cam Troyer paced the offensive attack with a clutch 2 out 3 run homer that was part of a 5 run 2 out rally in the in the 3rd.  Lazzaro and Betts went back to back as well in the game in almost the same spot in the outfield.  Pitching wise, Gainey would get the start and turned in a gritty 4 1/3 innings that allowed 3 ER and struck out 5 while throwing 62 pitches.  The Flames would turn to true freshman Todd Hudson for 2 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts in the 6th and 7th to set the
Just like that the season is upon us and the road to Omaha starts in Hattiesburg Miss. for the Flames.  The 18th ranked Golden Eagles will have sell out crowds all weekend in what should the premiere mid major matchup of the weekend.  The Golden Eagles were picked to win the 14 team SunBelt in the preseason poll.  All 3 games are on ESPN Plus.  The Golden Eagles were shutout in their super regional against hated rival Ole Miss after they were able to host.  The Flames will face the pre-season conference pitcher of the year Tanner Hall who went 9 and 3 with a 2.81 ERA last year.  Hall had just 14 walks in 109 Innings so the Flames will likely have to hit their way to a win against Hall Friday night.  He's not likely to provide a lot of aid in the form of bases on balls.   Offensively, They also boast 2 more first team all conference players in SS Dustin Dickerson & Outfielder Carson Paetow.  Dickerson hit .320 last year with no homers, 24 doubles and 32 RBI's and had just
Opening Day is just 5 days away now as the Flames begin to prepare for the trip to Southern Miss to face the 18th ranked Golden Eagles in a huge mid-major showdown to start the year.   Liberty continued on with it's slate of scrimmages Friday and Saturday before bad weather moved into the area on Sunday.  Liberty is expected to have one more short scrimmage Tuesday leading up the weekend.   Let's start with the bats as Camden Troyer continued his torrid start as he hit another left on left homer to go along with a single, walk and HBP to reach base 4 total times.  He seems to have firmly solidified the starting RF job as we head into the weekend.  True Freshman Kane Kepley continue to make a play for some time as he had 5 singles and 4 stolen bags on the weekend.  He's slated to backup Jaylen Guy in CF but saw some time in LF this weekend as well.  True Freshman Brayden Horton also hit a homer as he continues to show well in the early going.   Andrew Jenner, the Winthrop
Friday night was the First Pitch Banquet which was a great evening for those in attendance.  Appeared to be well over 200 folks in the Montview Ballroom and we heard from AD Ian Mccaw, Nick Pierce, Coach Jackson & a Q&A session with a quartet of seniors including Betts, Garret, Erickson & Guy.  I also had the privilege of introducing the Flames Diamond Collective Inc. which is a newly formed NIL Collective that myself, Brandon Baker, Sheldon Bream, Alex Close & Billy Daniels have partnered together to form.  The website and collective should be up and running by Opening day and I look forward to sharing more details with you all then.  There's also a great benefit to the community with this collective and we hope to have 501C3 status by year end as well.  More to come. Let's move to the diamond where we're T-2 weeks to opening day in Hattiesburg.  All signs continue to point toward Horn being able to take the ball on opening night.  The rest of the rotation
