The Fall signing period is quickly approaching on November 9th.  At this point in time the Flames will be expecting 6 signees with the 7th being 2 sport star Reese Mooney who is expected to sign in the early period with Football.  There's always the potential for changes at signing day but as of now here is how the Flames stack up.

Benjamin Blair - Blair is a 6'3 175 pound RHP from LCA that also plays for the South Charlotte Panthers.  Blair has topped out in the 90 mph range.  Blair appears to finish a lot of batters with a good off-speed pitch low in the zone and appears to have a nice 2 seamer or cutter that really bores in on RHH's.  He committed to the Flames in October of 21.  His frame and age would seem to project for the potential for more velocity.

Terry Kaler - Kaler is a 6-4 190 LB LHP from Concord NC that topped out at 91 MPH this summer.  Kaler finished his Junior season with 47 1/3 IP, a 1.48 ERA and 1.68 OBA.  Kaler appears to have good tilt and a big time spin rate on the breaking ball.  Kaler is another one that could project to continue to boost his velocity with his frame.

Maddex Labuda - Labuda is a 6'3 205 LB RHP from Boiling Springs, PA.  Labuda topped out at 93 MPH earlier in the Summer.  Labuda was also a part of the USA Prime National Program.  Labuda committed to the Flames August 3rd.

Reese Mooney - Mooney Came on Flames Nation's radar from Football first.  He was originally committed to Vanderbilt to play QB but wanted to give both sports a shot.  Depending on the publication, he's currently the top rated recruit in the football class with a .87 ranking on 247 sports He had over 30 football scholarship offers in Football.  He's 6'1 and 205 lbs and plays SS/3B in the baseball where he obviously has a plus arm and an advanced approach at the plate and decent power.  In late 2019 he had committed to Houston to play baseball before later re-opening his commitment.  It would appear that the further the recruiting process went the more important it became to play both sports.   Liberty obviously offers a great opportunity in both sports and Coach Freeze and Jackson have experience making this type of thing work with Brylan Green.  I couldn't find much baseball video but he appears to have a really good short swing and stride and small leg kick which allows him to go up and get the bat on the high velocity.

Josh Swink - Swink is a 6'1 160 LB LHP from Newton NC that throws in the Mid to upper 80's.  Swink is a crafty lefty that has excellent control and works both sides of the plate and excels at missing barrels.  Liberty has done very well with this type of lefty over the years including guys like Trevor Delaite, Jared Lyons and Victor Cole just to name a few.  There's probably still some velocity projection potential there as well.

Tanner Marsh - Marsh is a middle infielder from Asheboro NC.  There was limited video available for Marsh but he shows good rhythm and balance in his swing and stance.  Marsh has exhibited plus speed and arm strength and has gap power at this point.

Spencer Williams - is a JUCO LHP from Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville that pitched locally at Jefferson Forest.  Williams started out at Gardner Webb before heading to PHCC.  He features a 3 pitch mix that sits 88-90 and tops out at 91 mph.  He should be able to contribute immediately coming in from the JUCO ranks.  Liberty has done well from PH in the past with the likes of Trey Lambert among others.

Note : John Simmons was a part of this class before enrolling early and has been seen action at 2B and in the Outfield all Fall.

Update : Jack Mcmullan was a late add to the class.  He's a 6'2 195 lb catcher from Miller School just outside of Charlottesville which is coached by former MLB fireballer Billy Wagner.  He also played on the Canes Scout U17 Team.  PBR had him at a 2.00-2.11 pop time.   Miller School has been a nice pipeline for the Flames over the year.  If your a college baseball name the last name should sound familiar as Jack is the son of longtime UVA associated head coach Kevin Mcmullan who is beginning his 19th year with Brian O'Connor at UVA.
