Summer is officially upon as we turn the calendar from Spring.  I haven't posted since Liberty went 0 and 2 in the Gainesville regional after loses to Oklahoma and Central Michigan.  Oklahoma has proven to be a worthy opponent as they went on to win the regional and beat VT in the Super Regional to get to Omaha.  They have also since beaten Texas A&M & Notre Dame in the CWS and have a great chance to bring home the title.  They will have a rematch with the Aggies up next.  Over the next week I'll have 3 updates including tonight's recruiting update, a look at the draft and roster projections & an update on Summer league baseball for those that are playing for the Flames.

The transfer portal has been huge for Liberty Football and Baseball the last few years.  Baseball has produced guys like Trevor Delaite, Fraser Ellard, Aaron Anderson, Derek Orndorff & Stephen Hill just to name a few.  Liberty has added 4 players via the portal thus far.  One from Clemson, 2 from Winthrop & one from UNC.

Camden Troyer - announced via Twitter today that he would be continuing his career at Liberty.  Troyer is a corner OF and pitcher that hit .184 in 38 AB's with 2 homers and 11 RBI.  Troyer was a true Freshman from Greenville SC that has had several family members attend Liberty.  He was an all state selection as a senior and was the 500th overall ranked player in the nation coming out of HS and the #20 player in the state of SC.  He's a LHH and thrower where he touches 90.

Garrett Gainey - is a LHP that threw 70 2/3 innings at Winthrop including 11 starts while recording a 6.62 ERA with 55 strikeouts.  He can run the fastball from 87 to 89.   Gainey pitched in relief against Liberty in the Saturday game and went 3 2/3 innings with 4 ER allowed.  Gainey could factor in as a starter for the Flames.  Gainey is slated to be a JR.

Andrew Jenner - Jenner is a 1B/LF type player that missed the 2022 season due to injury but hit .292 with 1 homer and 21 RBI in 171 AB's in 2021 with a .975 Fielding %.  Jenner was hitting .362 in 15 games and 58 AB's in the COVID shortened 2020 season.  Jenner could have as many as 3 years of eligibility left depending on COVID and the injury if things worked out.  He was a Top 1000 player out of HS by PG and top 150 1B.  He's another left handed hitter.

Will Stewart - Stewart is a 6'0 210 LB Corner Outfield transfer from UNC.  He saw limited action in his sophomore year at UNC.  Stewart recorded 2 hits in 22 at bats.  Stewart made 5 starts at DH in 2021 and hit .250 a homer and 5 RBI.  He's originally from Rocky Mt. North Carolina.  He could factor into the OF mix as well.

Ty Peters and Eli Parks have also departed via the transfer portal.  Stay tuned later in the week as I'll take a look at who is expected to come back, who may be drafted from the active roster and from the HS class and where the roster may land.  Overall, I'd expect the Flames to continue to look for pitching in the portal and possibly hitting if the right opportunity came available.  Also may want to say a quick prayer for JUCO signee Victor Castillo who was injured in a collision a couple days ago on the field which will likely put an end to his summer ball.  Liberty will need him fully healthy to plug into the middle of the lineup in the 2023 Liberty lineup.
